Saying goodbye to August…

August is coming to a close. When you say goodbye to August, you say hello to September and that means fall is upon us.

The garden is looking like a patchwork. Some flowers are blooming just like it is still spring and some have completely faded. The rugosas are sending up a few flowers but mostly are making their beautiful hips. The hydrangeas are fading into their fall hues. The crab apple tree that stands in the middle of many of my flowers is dropping it’s leaves and apples giving a distinct fall look.

While I do miss the freshness of spring, fall in my world is filled with wonderful things!

Today my “fun thing” was working in the garden and taking pictures of bloomers! I took a ton of pictures and here are the ones that made the “cut”…

  1. Your roses are so lovely, I’m very taken with Quietness what a beautiful bloom and I love the name too!
As you go into Fall we about to burst into Spring and we have a very special rose road trip planned for October. I have to head North to deliver a painting and we have planned our route to take in around 15 rose gardens.
It will be great fun but I dearly wish I was going to meet you in Syracuse!!

      1. Verra dry here too, and in the 90’s most of the week. ;-(
Sunny is neck high and loaded though. I am leaving spent flowers for hips, right?
Should I just let the petals fall to the ground, then clean up later or take petals now?

  2. your flowers are very pretty, my plants too are peaking, the rugosa was blooming but I decided to give it a heavy prune to push it back a bit it was getting over bushy and over towering. my new dawn has made a comeback by next year it will probably be very close to what it was before mr vortex killed back the canes. hope you have fun in ny. my wisteria is taking off after four years of just sitting there, just got a sweet bay magnolia, very nice, it is about five years old there abouts. glad your enjoying your garden. may the buds be with you.

    1. So glad you got a Sweet Bay Magnolia. We bought one a couple years ago and just love it! Adds so much to our garden. Ihxvd a new tiny New Dawn but hopefully it won’t stay that way long!! I think next year I may have to do some pruning on my rugosas too! Nice to hear from you! Happy Fall.

  3. Such lovely photos! My personal favorites are Julia Childs which performs so well for me and the drift roses which help carry me through my long humid summers. Your Quiteness is absolutely gorgeous! Have a fabulous time in Syracuse. Thanks for all your inspiring posts!
