Maybe you remember the happy little tune, I Can See Clearly Now … It’s gonna be a bright…bright… sunshiny day and so on!
Well, “seeing more clearly” has me in a tizzy today. I better go back and start from the beginning. We have evergreens and “various things” at the back of our property. The “various things” are mostly wild, bird-planted things. But, all together they have created a beautiful wall of privacy that both the birds and I love! The birds even planted a few blackberries for us!
This past week the owner of the property on the other side of the wild wall of privacy… decided to “prune” their side. As they pruned I began to see things more clearly …. like people, cars, a truck, a motorcycle. By the end of the week, I was IN SIDE — IN TEARS.
Mr. G, who knows me all too well said, “call Brad & Ryan.” (Brad and Ryan own our favorite IGC — Country Harmony) to find out what they have that will grow fast and tall! Brad and Ryan came by to assess the situation as there is a big old maple tree in that area that needs to be figured into the plan. Mr. G even called a fence company about installing a few feet of 10’ high privacy fence just for good measure.
To get things started, Mr. G and Brad decided we need a crab apple tree. Here is the biggest crab apple tree in a pot they could find! It is huge! They know my love language. 🙂
Take a look at Brad and Ryan acting as “trees” so we could get the placement just right. They are the best! I wish the picture was better but I guess I was just TOO far away. Even though I was far away, note that behind them you can see “various” things. Must plant more asap!

That is heartbreaking! I’m glad you have a good team to work with. We are slowly growing up our own vegetative fence since we can’t afford to install a privacy fence at this point. We have native cedars and redbuds. This spring I also added a plum and peach. I think I’ll need to put in some more evergreens so that I won’t have a rude awakening this winter. Good luck!
I can tell you understand! If you can you might want to plant a small white pine … They are less expensive when small. Grow fairly fast and get huge AND are evergreen. Inexpensive shrubs we’ve used for screening are cistena plums, viburnum and lilacs. We’ve created living fences all around our property. But in the back we are gonna have to be intentional now!

Oh how awful! I can imagine how upset you must be. I must say I admire your faux crab-apple stand-ins though. What troopers! Here’s hoping the spring and summer replaces your screen with plenty of green and growing things to restore your cozy sanctuary.
Yes the “tree stand ins” are troopers. Our spring plantings and a little fencing will give us a more contol over our screen! Have a great day!

ugh!! nothing wrong with wanting a private space as least visually if not audiolly, I hope you an find some fast growing trees to block that mess. our trees on the edge of our property give us alot of privacy in the summer nad fall but none in the winter when the leaves come off.some of the fastest growing trees I have seen are the populars, (which I dont recommend as they are invasion big time, had one in our backyard of our old house years ago) some maples which can cause them to crack. we had a silver maple and a not sure maple possibly a norway beside the garage and that darn thing is always dropping dead branches, so hopfull will get it trimmed this year. there is a website called fast growing trees dot com they probably can help you find out what grows fast (you dont have to buy from them it gives one ideas becaues they send you small trees would take a long while still) but that big crab you got there seems like it would take only a little time to fill in. and they flower too. this is the excuse needed to go to garden centers and shop and shop. I love to shop at garden centers dont you?
